Salt Gatherer, Poem
this morning the child I carry
is made of salt
dawn reveals white scallops
exposes this small form
the salt gatherer collects precious deposits
distilled at water’s edge
knows – what to offer how deep to scrape
what to receive what to leave behind
my boat drifts gently away from white cliffs
I travel back into treeless steppes
this strange companion welcome in winter
